Roadmap to God - Part 3 - "The Prolog"
Gods cannot be more "Cool" than what our Indian Gods are..!
Just think of it….They have literally provided us a full menucard/roadmap to reach/meet them with exact blueprint. (In Part 1 and Part 2 of my article series, we saw how reaching God/Moksha/realizing god should be the grand goal of human life as per various Veda & Upnishad texts and philosophies) **
"Come find me, I am here, this is the way to reach me....."
Don't believe me?
Ok, lets check out what Upanishads and
later on the Bhagvad Gita says. We will then elaborate on it.
Lets concentrate on a particular dialogue between Arjun
and Krishn-
Arjun (to Krishn) : "Bro, I understand what
you are saying. But I have a practical problem. How to reach you (the God)? It is impossible to concentrate
on you as the mind keeps wandering in various materialistic things.....How
to proceed...?"
"Good question" Krishn said.
"Let me tell you something about Vairagya which might be helpful for you to reach to me through mind control",
Krishn continued-
असंशयं महाबाहो मनो दुर्निग्रहं चलम्।
अभ्यासेन तु कौन्तेय वैराग्येण च गृह्यते॥
Meaning- Its true that the mind is very hard to
control, but it can be done by practicing Vairagya and a proper Abhyaas.
(Note that "Abhyaas" here means a "Process" which can be followed).
What is this process? We will see that later on. But Just imagine….God himself has given us a fully drawn out
stepwise process to reach him (and yet we don’t…!! Thats the height of our ignorance...!! ) …. Talk about a structured, process
oriented thinking and lean six sigma.... MBA readers will instantly agree with
me here....!
If such a full process is given to us, then what's the
issue? Well, the issue is that we have an inexplicable fear about “Serious Spirituality” as I wrote in my earlier article on Moksha. Unless we change our
mindset and start thinking of Moksha as the Grand Goal of our life, we just cannot
understand what we are missing..…. We are fighting for materialistic comfort in this
short 80 year life while forgetting completely that we are not this body/mind,
but we are the ultimate Brahman/atman/consciousness which is immortal. That’s
the Advait philosophy which I follow and which was popularized by Adi
Shankaracharya. This life is just a very short period on the timeline of the
Atman/Consciousness. It is similar to what we call in Finance as Firefighting
for the short term. i.e. We are doing fire-fighting for showing good quarterly
earnings infront of the shareholders, but at the cost of hampering the grand 5-year strategic Plan (The
bigger goal).
Krishn then proceeds in various Shlokas (parts), and goes on to describe the various ways/roadmap/process to reach him (Moksha..)! And Oh yes, there are combo-meals as well which you can take if you cannot follow/decide on any one single one...!
We will see all of it in the next part of this post. Also, I will add an innovation to it. I will try to classify the various paths as per personality types (i.e. what kind of person you are and hence which path to Moksha will suit you the best). I have written almost 80% of that article as of now, but it needs some more research and final editing which I will do next Weekend. Hence not including it in this post.
We will see the full process in Part 4 of this post.
To be continued.....
